On 15 June 2018, Proteus were pleased to welcome Tommy Sheppard, MP for Edinburgh East, to the Centre for Inflammation Research at the University of Edinburgh.
He was interested in the research being carried out within the group after hearing that one of his constituents, Helen Parker, won the Physics medal and overall medal at STEM for Britain Parliamentary Showcase in March.
During Tommy’s visit we had the opportunity to give a tour of our biology labs, physics labs, as well as the Hub, which provides a shared space for all our scientists. A demonstration of our imaging technology which is currently in clinical studies, as well as early, but promising imaging technologies were given. One of these technologies, a fibre-based multispectral imaging system, was the focus of the poster presented by Helen at STEM for Britain.
Tommy was interested to see the breadth of research being carried out within the same group – from the development of novel imaging fibres and sensor design to fluorescent chemistry and biological probes.
