40 Secondary School pupils will spend a week of their summer holidays following a varied programme of activities on four different University of Edinburgh campuses, gaining a real insight into scientific research.
Dr Sarah McAughtrie (Postdoctoral Research Associate) and Holly Fleming (PhD Student) will work closely with the students and provide them with hands on experience of fixing imaging probes onto an optical fibre, taking measurements on a spectrometer and recording the results.
Dr Bethany Mills will introduce the students to microscopy work by guiding them through a cell staining technique, as well as using our imaging platform to image the stained cells and observe their characteristics.
The students will also be taken on a tour of the Proteus labs, introduced to members of the team, and given the opportunity to ask questions about our project and careers in science.
